Fried Yuca – “Wood Sticks”

Yuca can be consumed boiled or fried. Either way it must be properly prepared before consumption. Improper preparation of yuca can leave enough residual cyanide to cause acute cyanide intoxication and goiters, and may even cause ataxia or partial paralysis.

Yuca is also called Cassava, manioc,  balinghoy, mogo, mandioca, kamoteng kahoy, tapioca-root(predominantly in India) and manioc root. It is a woody shrub of the Euphorbiaceae (spurge) family native to South America. It is a good source of carbohydrates, but a poor source of protein.
